The Announcement

announcement

We had a checkup at twelve weeks. We didn’t get to see Baby Rez, but they used a Doppler to listen to his heart. I’ve been really nervous these past couple of weeks, but the doctor eased my anxiety by saying “It’s time to start getting excited.

We decided it was time to start telling our family. We told our parents the day before Thanksgiving. Sharing the news made it seem more real for both Dave and me. I think we have both been keeping our excitement at bay in case anything happened. But it’s hard to not share our family’s enthusiasm.

Helaine guessed why we were calling and was overjoyed. My mom also had a suspicion. She knit an adorable baby aviator hat “just in case” there was an announcement at Thanksgiving. I think it was my request for mashed potatoes that gave it away. Potatoes in any form have been a craving for me for the last few weeks. Mangos and celery too.

And Jessie, who knew all along, bought Baby Rez his first onesie and some swaddle blankets with airplanes of course. He’s not even here yet and he’s already spoiled.

We told Dave’s sisters over Hanukkah. While they’re all already aunts or uncles, I think they were excited for us—or at least to have a new cousin for their kids to play with.

Telling our family and friends has been one of the best parts of being pregnant—of course next to listening to Baby Rez’s heartbeat and seeing him on the ultrasound.
