happily ever after

Five years ago I met the love of my life; three years ago we got married; two years ago we decided to start a family. We had no idea how long this journey would be. To our friends and family who are still waiting for their bundle of joy, we wish you patience, strength and courage.

We found out that I was pregnant on September 28. I was home from work for the high holy days, but Dave was working. I was in tears when I called him.

I’m pretty sure Dave thought they were tears of sadness/disappointment until he heard me say “We’re going to have a baby!” Since he was at work, he couldn’t dance around the office, so he said “Awesome. This is definitely good news. Very exciting!”

Dave came home early with flowers and Gatorade. (Did I mention I had been drinking like a fish? Who knew that was a pregnancy symptom? It was actually the most noticeable and constant symptom). Cue the waterworks! I was already kind of tearful, and his sweet gesture made me cry a little bit more.

We talked and talked and talked into the night… When are we going to tell our family and friends? And how?  If it’s a boy, would the doctor circumsize him or would it be done at a bris? Will we bank the cord blood? When does the heart start beating?

I mentioned Baby Rez was the size of a poppyseed. Or was it a sesame seed? (Depends on which app I used). I showed Dave a picture of the development, and in classic Dave-style, he responded “It looks like a hot dog.” I think this is going to be the first of many silly things Dave says during this pregnancy. I want to remember this forever.

This is the beginning of our happily ever after. Follow us here as we embark on our greatest adventure yet—parenthood.
