10 things I’ve learned

It’s barely been a month since Ethan has been born, but there are a few things I have learned already in no particular order.

  1. I can function surprisingly well on very little sleep
  2. My baby is stronger than I am. Just try swaddling him when he is angry.
  3. The amount that comes out always seems like more than went in. This applies to vomit, poop and pee.
  4. The cuter the outfit, the more likely Ethan is to spit up on it.
  5. The overtired cry is the worst. I don’t understand all Ethan’s cries yet, but this one is by far the most upsetting.
  6. Instant way to get baby to sleep: a ride in the car or in the baby carrier.
  7. Sleep, having a clean house, eating and caring for an infant can not all happen at once. Pick two.
  8. Bathing babies is fun. I love seeing my little man so relaxed in the tub—that is, until you try and take him out.
  9. Spending a lot on fancy toys does not mean your baby will like it. Case in point: the mamaroo baby bouncer. It’s fancy, pricy and Dave thought it was really neat. While Ethan doesn’t hate it, he prefers the baby swing we got him for a quarter of the price.
  10. I just don’t have enough time in the day to take photos, and edit and post them. See #7. Thankfully my camera has wifi so I can upload/post directly. So if you see some photos on facebook or instagram that could use a little touching up, just know I was being lazy and had no time to tinker in photoshop.
