Introducing Ethan Levi Reznik

On the eighth day of life, Baby Boy Rez was given his Hebrew (and also English) name. We chose the name Ethan meaning strong and enduring because he was  the little boy that made it. We hoped he would be strong and healthy throughout the pregnancy, through birth and in life. We chose the name before he was born, but it seems even more appropriate now. When he was delivered, he struggled to breathe, and after we left the hospital he struggled with jaundice and had doctor’s appointments almost every day to monitor his bilirubin levels. It was so scary, but this little boy certainly has a will to live.

His middle name Levi, as all biblical names do has a story. Levi was Jacob and Leah’s third son and later one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The name comes from the term lavah meaning “be joined to.” The Torah suggestions is was Leah’s hope that Jacob would be drawn closer to her. This baby has certainly brought Dave and me closer together, and since he is our first-born he has made us not just a couple, but a family.
